Absolute Disaster... Why Me?

Bad news, on Tuesday night I was in a pretty bad car accident. The car I was in was T-boned by a pick-up truck and I snapped violently one way as the car was sent in the opposite direction. I was wearing my seatbelt but that does little for you when the impact is from the side.

At first I felt nothing, I think I was in shock. Then my neck and back started to hurt, I was taken away from the scene on a back board and a neck restraint thing because the paradmedics were worried that I had broken my neck and or back. After spending 4 hours in the hospital it was determined that my back and neck were not broken (thank God)

I still have a lot of pain and discomfort in my neck and back. The only time it does not hurt is if I lay down with my knees bent and stay completely still. This sucks.I am unable to work or exercise and I am taking pain killers....

I can't believe this is happening to me, it's not fair.

My doctor says this could take a long while to heal. my lower back... I need to go lay down.

  1. Sorry to hear man. Good luck in the healing process, and what a great blessing that you didn't have any breaks, that's huge.

All the best, and also, congrats on your weight loss!

  2. Oh, Marcus. I am so sorry to hear about this. I also am thankful that you weren't more seriously injured but this sounds very painful.

Any prognosis on short-term recovery timeline?

  3. Marcus! Wow, man. I'm glad you are well enough to let us know what happened. That is horrible! It's not fair, and it's okay to be upset. Now would be a great time to catch up on some reading and have a family member pick up some health and fitness books for you from the library. If you can't work on your body, work on your mind. I am so, so sorry to hear about the accident. :(

I'm doing a 7-miler this weekend, and I'm dedicating it to you!

  4. Holy crap a race dedicated to me! Wow.

I am supposed to rest but I have been having trouble sleeping. Partly because of the pain and partly because I am a little mentally frazzled from the accident. I wake up after about an hour to the sound of the car crash and my heart is racing.

The 4 hours I spent on the back board may well be the worst experience of my life. Not being able to move, unsure of my health, thinking of dealing with a potentially broken neck all the while I can hear nurses and doctors talking and other ER sounds around me. I came close to losing it, I don't know how much longer I could of stayed on that board.
